SCITUATE, Mass.—Just a few days after the Coast Guard issued a shark advisory for northeast waters, a Rockland man hauled in a 325-pound thresher shark over the holiday weekend.
Dave Vetelino caught the eight-foot predator while fishing Monday about 30 miles off the coast. He tells The Patriot Ledger it took more than 30 minutes to reel in the beast.
His catch came one week after a Gloucester fisherman caught a great white shark about 20 miles from shore.
Stanley Glaskin, of Scituate, who captained the 38-foot boat Polar Bear when the thresher was caught, said he had not caught a thresher in 20 years.
