scoop vs dip

Can anyone tell me the difference between a scoop net and a dip net? The anglers guide defines a scoop net but says the mesh cannot be stiff material but there is no definition for dip net and under the blue crab regs they say u can use either kind of net. I want to know because I saw a net with a stiff metal basket that I thought would be good for crabbing because it won't tangle up but I don't wanna buy it if I'm gonna get harrased about it.

As I've learned it, the difference is in the length of the handle. A Scoop net has a short handle (you may attach this to yourself while stream fishing) and a Dip net has a much longer handle (often on boats or with crabbers).
