This was from the Hartford Courant,
STONINGTON - Two people were hurt this afternoon when their boat apparently crashed into the Watch Hill Reef just off the Rhode Island shoreline near Misquamicut, the Coast Guard reported.
The 40-foot recreational boat hit the reef sometime around 1:20 and began taking on water, a boater reported to the Coast Guard in an emergency call. The Coast Guard station at New London sent out its rescue ship called in a helicopter, and two ships from the Boat U.S. emergency towing service helped rescue the victims.
With a Coast Guard escort, the tow ships pulled the sinking boat toward Stonington Harbor, and transferred the victims to an ambulance, Petty Officer First Class Anthony Kozak reported. Kozak did not have names of the victims, but said they were a woman who suffered a rib injury and a man whose injuries were undetermined. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
Boat U.S. was able to refloat the sinking boat, and there is no
apparent fuel leak or other environmental threat.
Good that nobody was seriously injured or killed.
But, What the hell!! with all the electronics today you don't expect something like this on a 40 footer.
