New London - Two men were thrown out of their fishing boat, one with a fish hook stuck in his leg, when a wave capsized their boat shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday night while they fished in The Race.
”It's just a very hard spot. And to be stopped there and be fishing - it's dangerous,” said Petty Officer Lana Dean, spokeswoman for Sector Long Island Sound.
The 19-foot fishing boat capsized about two miles southwest of Fisher's Island, which is about nine miles from New London, but floated upside down and was able to be towed away.
Two other fishing boats picked the men out of the water, Dean said.
Coast Guard Station New London launched a 25-foot boat to bring the men here to meet emergency services personnel, who removed the fish hook from the injured man's leg
