FLW Outdoors announced that it has reluctantly filed a lawsuit in Minnesota State Court against BRP/Evinrude for their failure to pay its agreed upon sponsorship fees for the entire 2009 FLW Outdoors tournament season.
In a recent press release FLW Outdoors Chairman, Irwin L. Jacobs stated, "FLW Outdoors has had a long-term sponsorship and working relationship with Evinrude as a premier sponsor of FLW Outdoors and its tournaments. In 2009, FLW Outdoors received confirmation from Evinrude officials both in writing and verbally that Evinrude had agreed to the continuance of their sponsorship with FLW Outdoors at about the same level of sponsorship fees for 2009 as they had in 2008." He goes on to claim that FLW Outdoors supported Evinrude through all of the same marketing commitments as in 2008, but have yet to receive any payment for their efforts.
In addition, FLW Outdoors claims to have paid the Evinrude Pro Staff almost $100,000 in the 2009 season for performance based commitments and is still waiting for reimbursement from Evinrude.
This news comes only a month after Bombardier Recreational Products (parent company of Evinrude) posted a press release on their website stating, "despite the turbulence in the financial markets, BRP and the controlling shareholders of its parent company, have raised CAN $130 million for the purpose of further strengthening BRP's financial position."
