Last minute plans, skipperj9 and myself head out of Groton on Matts boat after 4PM today. Mission, dig some clams and scup out.
We headed out with sketchy skies, arrived at the clam bed and proceeded to do the tonging thing, I will admit, Matt did most of the hard labor
(He's a good clam boy)
Scored close to a full 5 gallon pail that was a little more difficult than we planned and took up more time, but finally we were off in seach of scup. Get our drift going action was slow couple small sea bass, time to make a move not much time left. We both drop down..tap, tug we are both on, land a couple nice scup, we drop down again, instantly I am on, fighting very hard for a scup, boat a nice scup minus a hook on my double rig thanks to a bluefish. Matt says, OH NO, I think I have a bluefish on...damn by-catch, he boats his blue after a bit of a battle on lite tackle, perfectly stuck in the lip so the teeth never got to his line.
We caught scup into the dark and decided to start our 1/2 hr trip back in.
Turned out to be a great quick trip out for just a few hours.
