CT DEP Offers Ice Fishing Class at Kellogg Environmental Center, Derby
Learn the basics of ice fishing to make your experience an enjoyable one.
The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is offering a FREE "Introduction to Ice Fishing" class at the Kellogg Environmental Center, 500 Hawthorne Ave, Derby on Saturday, January 9, 2010 (Snow date January 16).
Families and individuals may attend this indoor class from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in preparation for some wintry days of fishing. Volunteers from the Connecticut Aquatic Recreation Education (CARE) program will be on hand to lead both experienced and novice anglers through the tools, techniques, equipment and laws for ice fishing in Connecticut. Instruction includes winter safety for water and cold weather to ensure everyone is prepared to be outdoors.
Ice or not, the class will be held and participants will receive angler guides and other materials that will help them enjoy fishing year-round. Families are encouraged to attend. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Hot chocolate will be provided.
