You need to get your old man glasses upped a few powers...look at my original post and the heading says 33.5 yea big for the river,
most likely bigger than any fish you caught this year so far, including cod or pollack. Very Happy

well I am new to this whole striper in the river fishing so I launched sat at charter oak around 8:30. Fished around the power plant and starting getting excited when I saw fish breaking. That didn't last long when I found out they were carp. Started up river and made a few stops but no action. I called a local bait shop and they advised me to fish the mouth of the Farmington. We mad a run up river untill we got to the 91 bridge in Windsor. On the first drift my buddy hooked up but it came untied. The next drift I hooked into a fish and caught my first ever ct river schoolie. Was very small but you gotta start somewhere. Did the same drift three more time and we ended up with 3 fish total all under 18"

How long does the run last?

Posted Sun Apr 25, 2010 11:20 am

Depends, the further north you are up the river and the water levels, up by the Windsor area I am usually done fishing for them about the first or second week of June.

Looks like we got some new recruits for the new season,GOOD DEAL! I actually went out this morning for about 4 1/2 hours.Had every intention of hittin it hard, brought the big rods and everthing. My mind was in it but the body wasn't with it.I only gave the stripers about a solid hour before I pulled into one of my little bass spots and settled down.Late night last night, some drinking combined with the rain this morning that wouldn't quit,I just didn't have it in me to work too hard.Ended up getting a largemouth and a smallmouth on a spook,2 smallies on a husky jerk and picked up a couple of chunky white perch too.Probably post a couple of pictures tomorrow.Next time I'm only bringing striper-sized baits so I have no choice but to get after em.Sometimes it's alot of work chasing them damned things but I'm sure it will pay off eventually.Actually what I need to do next time I head out is grab me some eels!.........For anybody whose interested and didn't catch it the first time, the CT River Smallie action is heating up bigtime. They were slamming top-waters and jerk baits this morning!

Carp nice job on another mixed bag of fishies

skipperj9 and myself decided to chase stripers on the CT river in the rain this evening.
We did well, Skipper caught his first keeper right off the bat on the first drift, might have been first throw...28" on the button, he caught it on a black & purple top water swimmer.

We made several drifts in that area, I had a swirl or two at my lures but no love

Things heated up a bit when it got dark, I was switching throwing different top water plugs and small plastics.

I hooked up on a fish with the small dark colored plastic on my light gear again...he put up a nice battle until I boated him, another
28 incher.

Only 2 boats out on the river when it was getting dark and they left early, had the river to ourselves, we managed our 2 keepers and about a dozen more smaller fish between us.
As always I am glad to say the fish were taken on artificial's and not bait. To make it a bit more interesting I forgot the net so we had to boat them by hand

Looked like a good night in the rain, Lung. You seem to be having much better success with light tackle.

I've gotta get out this weekend and try this river striper gig. Been too busy lately to throw in a line. Looks like the weather is going to be nice. I think this weekend I will dedicate all my time to ME.

Good evening there Lung. Were you out in the new boat? She is a striper machine!
