Left the marina just about 1st light this morning. As I was headed out the channel, I saw breaking fish about 200 yards south of the Niantic railroad bridge. Picked up four stripers ranging from 24 to 28 inches before the boat traffic put them down. Used a Gray/white 1/0 Blonde on intermnediate line. Headed over to Two-Tree Island where I began my casing practice. Bartletts and Black Point only afforded me more casting practice. Water temperature was 58*.
On the way in, I passed the local DEP Officer and waved my saltwater license at him. He pulled along side and laughed when I asked him to check it so I feel I'm getting my $10. worth. He went on to say that the DEP would need to have at least 50 Marine officers in order to effectively patrol the Connecticut coast. That would only enable them to check 20% of the saltwater anglers out on a typical summer weekend.
