I recently recieved a dozen or so packages of lead bullet weights. They are all of various weights and lead colored. I almost always match my weights with the color lure im fishing, so I pay more for painted lead and beads. If I were to spray these plain ones or brush them with nail polish would there be any residual odors on them that fish could smell.....I have read and heard of a some people doing this but im not sure...anybody???

never did it myself but I can't imagine that any type of paint you could put on there would be any different than anything, any manufacturer would use,I say it probably doesn't matter what you use.I'd try both and see which one holds up to fishing better, meaning which finish stays on the longest without chipping/flaking off.

Carp13...I kind of figured as much...Well I tried some this weekend that I sprayed with a left over can of my wifes speckled black paint. I caught fish just like any other time. Now I am getting creative. I sprayed some black primer and dusted them with blue glitter and clear coated them. they look amazing. There are so many combinations to create. I will be busy this winter. Very Happy

Just an FYI I use powder paint on my jig heads and find it very convenient, I must say they are boring with no sparkles or eyes Smile

so true...Im not a fan of unpainted lead...Im going to invest in some quality fishing lure paints and just paint my own from now on. As if I needed another time consuming hobby related to fishing Very Happy

I always used nail polish when doing the head of a fly instead of head cement after the final knot at the head of the fly ... it was cheaper and came in colors...
