Been wearing waders for 15 years, and had a first yesterday.
Got out of work, sun came out, so I decided to try my luck at the stream down the street. As I entered the water, I noticed that it was higher and a little quicker than it was opening day. I have fished this stream for 7 years, and know it pretty well, or so I thought! I tied a Griffith's Gnat on my leader, and stated roll casting as I walked downstream. I stopped at one of my favorite holes, and started working it. On the second cast I caught this little guy.
I released it, and continued to walk slowly down stream. I stopped at another hold, and work that one for a bit with no luck. I was about waist deep in the water, and took one step down stream, only to find no ground! With my motion going forward and the current, I found my self swimming! Luckily I was only a few feet away shore, but by the time I go there, my boots were filed.
I feel very lucky! That scared the hell out of me! Glad I was not in a wider river! I mite not be here if I was! Any of my fishing friends out there, be careful wile wading!
Oh and for the record, yes, it was one of my flies!
