The stocking takes place Tuesday. It's the fifth year the state has stocked lakes with catfish.
Five of the 11 lakes and ponds involved are part of the DEP's Community Fishing Program, which stocks urban waters with trout and catfish in the fall and spring to encourage residents to try fishing.
The Community Ponds, in Bridgeport, Waterbury, Hartford, Norwich and Hamden, will be stocked with catfish weighing over two pounds each and measuring 14 to 18 inches in length.
Before the stocking program, channel catfish weren't found in Connecticut in significant numbers anywhere but the Connecticut River.
