NORWALK -- Nearly a year after Tropical Storm Irene knocked the seawall and fishing pier at Calf Pasture Beach out of commission, Federal Emergency Management Agency money has been approved to help make repairs.

"We're approved for $225,000 for repairs to the pier. We're starting the design now," said Mayor Richard A. Moccia.

FEMA shares the cost of repairs for eligible work on eligible projects, covering up to 75 percent of the costs associated with those repairs.

Following an inspection of the damaged pier, a FEMA project specialist determined that 100 linear feet of railing on the pier were damaged as a result of the storm. FEMA agreed to demolish the railing and replace it with a wooden hand rail. The city wants demolish 860 linear feet of the railing and replace it with stronger, aluminum railings.
