what works well is very dependant on where and what type your trying to get. I have only had good luck catching browns with crank baits, and only in rivers. I like the pins minows in the shallow brooks because they run very shallow, and the thin minnow rapala's in deeper waters...

dont forget the the old stand bye Gold/silver Phoebe In the day there wasnt a trout guy out there didnt have a few of these in different sizes in the box.Ive caught some nice trout on the biger 1s if you can find them 2-3 in isnt to big grab them if you can find them. they also work well for bass and pickeral
I've had decent luck with the Thomas' Buoyant Spoons in Western Mass for trout in lakes/ponds where the water is somewhat deeper(aka not a river). Hope it helps
