My prediction is they cross breed with a green crab and create the best taug bait you would ever find.

The invasive Chinese mitten crab is an adventurous creature.

Along London's Thames River, where mitten crabs have established themselves for nearly a century, the spidery crustaceans have been observed crossing city streets. "They are very adept walkers," said David Molnar, a veteran marine biologist with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Molnar was the first scientist to examine the juvenile Chinese mitten crab that was recently discovered in Connecticut waters – the first mitten crab found in the state. The specimen immediately displayed its agility, crawling quickly out of the water in the holding tank and up the biologist's arm. "If it had been a blue crab, I might have been worried," Molnar said. "But mitten crabs have relatively small chelopods (claws) and can't really bite."

Long Island Sound Still, large numbers of Chinese mitten crabs – known for the furry cuffs like mittens around their claws – could pose a threat to native species like the blue crab, as both inhabit the same river estuaries. In high densities, mitten crabs can tear up fishing gear, clog pumps and intake pipes and cause riverbank erosion through their burrowing activities.
