Got out Friday morning just after 1st light. Found pods of birds marking fish in Niantic Bay- bluefish. Headed NE to Bartletts reef. Birds signaled breaking stripers along the rip line. Fish were actively feeding on butterfish. Any flies matching the quarter sized butterfish took fish. I fished a white/gray Pugalisi style pattern and silver crease fly. Most fish ranged from 24 to 30 inches. One striper that streched the tape to 32 inches.
Fog rolling in and out was the only downside of the moring. Only a couple of bluefish were landed by the 1/2 dozen or so anglers in the area.
On the way in, I found blitzing stripers on the south side of Two Tree Island. Fish were harrasing the local butterfish popualtion in the boulder field. Long casts were required because of the many boulders that lay just below the surface on the shallow reef. Landed a few more stripers and called it a day about noon. A good day on the water... Hopefull the remenants of the hurricane expected to pass through will not dilute the action.
