GLASGO POND, Griswold (168 acres) Species: (LMB YP BB CB S) A grove of sassafras, with very aromatic leaves, greets you at the access. As you head out along this narrow, winding pond, many overhanging branches drape out over the water. To get away from the houses and bass-fishing boats, head east and squeeze under the Route 165 bridge(if you are in a small enough vessel). Other than the moderate noise from Route 165, the southeastern section feels like a northern wilderness area — you almost expect to hear the wail of a loon, a species absent from Connecticut's inland waterways for many years. Expect to see: wood duck, forested hillsides, shrubby shoreline. Season: Year round Directions: Route 201, east on Hillview Heights, bear right to get to the launch. There are no facilies here other than the boat launch, and limited parking there.
