So on 5/23/13 I decided to go out in the kayak and could not decide where I really wanted to go. I picked Black Pond in Woodstock as I had only been there once before, it was not very large, since it was going to rain knew no matter where I was it was a short trip to shore.
If you are not familiar with Black pond it is a 73 acre lake in Woodstock about 4.5 miles from Mashapaug. It is a circular lake with once house right on the lake and a YMCA camp on it as well (so may be busy in the summer). I don't think the lake get a lot of pressure due to how close it is to Mashapaug. The parking area has a spot for ten cars and the ramp is a dirt ramp. The lake is about 23 feet deep at the deepest and they say the average is fourteen feet. The access road to the the launch area is a narrow dirt road that goes by the YMCA camp.
I arrived at about 9:30 AM and found the lot empty. The air temp was about 60 degrees and there was a slight wind from the south. The sky was overcast and there was a call for rain in the area. When I launched I began working clockwise around the lake. My depth finder showed water temp at 68 degrees which was a huge difference from Mashapaug about a week earlier which was 61 to 62 degrees.
Through the course of the day I threw I F-7 Floating gold Rapala which yielded one Perch, a Dives to 6 green crayfish colored Rapala which yielded two bass, various color 5" Senko worms wacky rigged and a Reaction Inovation Skinny Dipper swim bait in their "Dirty Sanchez" color which yielded all the rest of the fish.
I threw the Senko tight to the bank at any vegetation I found and they were getting pick up left and right. I saw some beds, but did not see any fish on them. It started to rain and the bite slowed down and I had heard that when it rains, shallow and bedding bass move to a little deeper water. I happened to find a 3 to 6 food mixed muddy and rock bottom flat at the western end of the lake with a little vegetation mixed in. If you draw a line from east to west in the through the middle of the lake you will find the area on the west end of the lake. The lake was pretty clear you could see about six feet down. While casting on the flat I began hitting fish or getting bites on almost every cast. Used Senko, DT6 and the swim bait and picked up fish.
Continued to moved around the lake and picked up a few more fish prior to getting off. I made it only to the northeast corner before having to get off. The northeast side of the lake it where the deep parts are and I was marking lots of fish on my way back to the launch in about 20 feet of water, the fish were at about 11 feet.
got off the water at about 2:00 PM I saw lot of fish in the water Crappie suspended in some pad in the south east corner of the lake and lot of sun fish as well. In all I caught about 25 bass between 12 and fifteen inches, one Perch and a Pickerel. The lake is also stocked with trout as well.
After talking to a friend who fishes and reading some posts on here I decided to post pictures of the lures I used in hopes that it would be helpful to someone and maybe getting some feedback from others.

New to CT, relocated from Ca. Read about Black Pond and its abundance of perch. Took my son there for his birthday, this past July. We caught some nice perch, I can't remember how many bass we caught, left at noon due to rain. My boy caught one bass over 6lbs. I live in Bristol, but will gladly drive to Black pond anytime. would like to try it through the ice, still need to get ice gear though. Great place to fish.
