Norwalk (WTNH) - State leaders today will be debating some shellfishing fee hikes, and what effect they might have on an already troubled industry.
In her proposed budget Gov. Jodi Rell proposed raising the fees shellfishermen have to pay. The fishermen say it could be enough to kill off a business that is already struggling.
The proposal is to add a dollar fee to every bushel or bag of clams. The fishermen say that is not going to add up to much money for the state budget, but those fishermen told News Channel 8 last week that for them any new fee is going to be hard to swallow.

Some fishermen and state representatives who are also steamed about this proposed fee are going to be out on the docks in Norwalk later on this morning. They will hold a press conference to make it clear to Gov. Rell that a dollar a bushel would be a serious shock to the shellfishing industry.
