The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is no more. On July 1, 2011, the DEP became the DEEP or the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
The new agency is charged with the dual responsibilities of creating a new energy future for the state and protecting Connecticut's environment and natural resources.
