Taftville Pond/Shetuckett River
Day 1, I put in at the boat ramp on the east side of the river in Lisbon off of RT-169. Paddled across and then up stream. Caught nada until I switched bait to a Thomas 'Rough Rider' to which I had added the tail end of a Berkley Power Worm (just for kicks). Then between the big island and the Lisbon Incinerator power plant I literally snagged a blue gill. Right in the forehead, if they have foreheads. I guess the poor little guy got a little too curious about the odd looking intruder. I did see some huge fish (see day two) jumping clear of the water though.
Day 2, This time I put in right under the I-395 bridge (commuter lot between a 7-11 and a BP station on RT-97) and paddled up to the Occum Dam. I drifted back with the wind and current casting as I went. When I got to the inlet from a stream that comes from Versailles Pond (I've since been told that it is the "Little River"), I started getting hits so I threw in the anchor and played for a while. 6 wee smallmouths and a little later and further south, a perch. Guess which lure I was using (http://www.ctfishfinder.com/view_photo_details.php?id=19551&pid=20). Then I started seeing those "huge fish" jumping again. I finaly saw one, just as it was completely clear of the water. Do otters count? Then on the last cast that favorite lure took an air trip (the line snapped when I cast) and it was so dark I couldn't find it. Good thing I have a spare!!!
