Windy Afternoon At Gortons

Another windy Sept afternoon. Went to Gortons for a 3hr late afternoon stint. Due to weeds and wind started with topwater stick bait and buzz bait. After birds nest with the buzzer, I gave that up and watched a very nice one follow my fake Sammie back to the boat. Switched to a wake crankbait. Got one around 1.5ish. As I moved down the lake no takers on swimbait, crank, or toad. Moved to small cove out of wind. Bust out the punching rod and first cast into the pads get a 3.6lber (in the pic). Being that i was tired of the wind and the pads seemed like as good of a place as any, I stuck out the next hour and a half there. Got 3 more ranging from 1- to 2.5+ all on punch bait.

  • this lake has been hit or miss. I have done well at sunset during the summer on the other side, with no apparent structure. guess they just come up on the flat to feed.
